Ο Ιωνάς Καρούσης tragically lost his life in a terrorist attack in Tel Aviv last night (1/10). Armed assailants opened fire on innocent bystanders using firearms and knives, leaving at least 7 individuals dead and 10 more injured.
In an exclusive interview with ΕΡΤΝews, his father shared poignant insights about his son and the heartbreaking event.
At just 26 years old, Ιωνάς was pursuing his architecture studies in Tel Aviv, being the son of the esteemed neurology professor at the University of Jerusalem, Δημήτρης Καρούσης. His father, visibly distraught, recounted the tragic circumstances surrounding his son’s sudden passing and how he learned about this horrific incident.
According to him, he faced difficulties in reaching Ιωνάς, as his son’s phone was dead. It wasn’t until midnight that authorities visited their home to deliver the devastating news. With deep sorrow, he expressed his dismay at the ongoing violence in the region that claims innocent lives.
“Both sides, one with the Quran and the others with the Old Testament, constantly seek to kill one another,” lamented the father of the deceased.
The senior Καρούσης went on to describe his son as a vibrant student on the cusp of his career, out to complete an architecture project. Unfortunately, while waiting at the trolley station in Jaffa, Tel Aviv, his life was abruptly cut short by the attackers. “At around 7:00 PM, the terrorists came and shot him dead. I had no way to contact him since his phone had died, and it was around midnight when police and military personnel came to inform us,” he shared.
“I want to emphasize that this insanity knows no bounds. Both sides, one with the Quran and the others with the Old Testament, are perpetually caught in this cycle of violence. It seems never-ending. This madness claims the lives of innocent people, individuals who are in the prime of their lives, the best among us,” he added.
